STUFF – Bo’ness Academy

The company worked with twenty third year pupils over three sessions taking the pupils on a playwriting journey from ‘page to stage’.

After a playwriting workshop with Sylvia Dow, they had a follow up session to hone their three-minute plays with Sylvia and Muriel Romanes, bringing a director’s eye and experience to their scripts. The third session took place at the local theatre, the Barony, where actors Carol Ann Crawford, Romana Abercromby, and Andrew Gourley alongside Muriel and Sylvia took them through an in-depth rehearsal of each play, followed by a showing to some of their parents and friends at the end of the day. Carol Ann and Romana also performed an extract from Stuff.

We really enjoyed this project, and the experience of watching these young people growing in confidence, and seeing their delight in hearing their work read and performed by professionals.

A HUGE thank you to yourself and your colleagues for the time you have given over the last month to our young people here in S3. I heard amazing things about the final outcome yesterday at the Barony.

Once our pupils got to see their work in a real context, we know they got a real buzz from this and thank you to the hard work and talent of all involved to allow them this opportunity.

If the opportunity arises again, we would be delighted to work together, even extending this further into our BGE with different themes. Once again, please accept our gratitude and hope you enjoyed the process as much as we did. Many thanks’
